This next installment of book reviews takes us back in time
through historical fiction. Though set in different times and places, each
introduces a main character who discovers a new sense of personal value and
self-reliance through the events of their stories. The authors highlight
courage, loyalty, and perseverance. The endings are not “rainbows and
butterflies,” but real life isn’t that way. As stories that try to recreate
real life, it makes sense that they aren’t either. We all have to deal with
complicated situations that don’t have neat resolutions. Reading about how
other people cope with hard situations can help younger readers decide what to
do if they face something similar.
We’ll go all the way back to the 16th century and
then come forward in time. Have fun in the way back machine!
